With advancements made in every field, everything is becoming automated. This is the reason modern-day stereotactic techniques have evolved to tackle the neurosurgical challenges faced. Such techniques have been made in coordination with sophisticated technological developments and engineering innovations like automated robotic platforms, which help in accurately and responsibly accessing specific brain targets. Such robotic systems offer a unique combination of cleverness, durability, steadfastness, and precision.

What is the main purpose behind robotic platforms?

The main purpose behind creating such robotic platforms is to perform a systematic review of robotic integration for cranial stereotactic guidance in neurosurgery. It helps to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of a range of robotic technologies, both past and present, including the details that pertain to each system’s kinetic specifications, and targeting accuracy profiles.

How can the goals be met?

With the above mentioned objectives, only a robotic system is what can help. This has been clearly proven through an experiment conducted, in which eligible articles on human clinical applications of cranial robotic-guided stereotactic systems were extracted between 1985 and 2017, from several databases. The focus was mainly on stereotactic biopsy procedures, stereoelectroencephalography, and deep brain stimulation electrode insertion.

What was resulted from the experiment?

Cranial robotic stereotactic systems feature serial or parallel architectures with 4-7 degrees of freedom, and frame-based or frameless registration. With all these features, robotic systems can provide assistance in various fields of stereotactic biopsy, deep brain stimulation and stereoelectroencephalography electrode placement, ventriculostomy, and ablation procedures. Amazing benefits can be achieved with all of this like increased accuracy, improved safety, reduced operating times, and intra-operative imaging ability. Also, the complication rate with such systems is low.

What can be concluded from all of the above?

Obviously, with advanced technologies, the future is always better, faster, and efficient. Thus, the emerging future, pertaining to the integration of robotic technologies into neurosurgical procedures, is going to be very efficient and beneficial. The future will see a trend of emerging cost-effectiveness, miniaturization, increased safety, and utmost precision, which will thus result in successful outcomes.

While stereotactic robotic technologies are helpful for neurosurgeons, what is helpful to us patients are the neurosurgeons themselves. Thus, we can indirectly benefit a lot from such robotic technologies. However, in spite of all of this, in case of any neurological need, we will have to only approach a neurosurgeon. Maitri Hospital is one place where you can get the best neurosurgeons who help attend all kinds of trauma cases 24×7. The team of neurology includes three neurosurgeons, three orthopaedic surgeons, one plastic surgeon, one urologist, two radiologists, one general surgeon, and three gynaecologists. Sinusitis is a condition that can make it very annoying and reduce the quality of life. Neither can one enjoy an outing or event, nor can they concentrate at work. Millions of people are affected by sinus across the globe; and if you are one of them, we understand how you feel, which is why we have come up with this blog to help relieve you of your sinus symptoms, thus improving your quality of life. This blog provides you with all the information you should be having about sinus remedies so that you can make informed choices and take the right step.

Treating sinus at home

If your sinus doesn’t seem as severe that you may need to go to the doctor, you may want to treat it at home. Or, even if you are on a sinus medication, you would want additional comfort and care taken, which is when you could try to use these home remedy aids. You can take up sinus irrigations with salt water that can help remove irritants, relieve inflammation, and reduce swelling. Also, you need enough rest and hydration. Drink lots and lots of water throughout the day, and if you don’t have any important chores to do, just rest and relax instead of wasting time on unimportant things.

Treating sinus with medications

When you get in touch with a health practitioner for your sinus problem, he may suggest you over-the-counter nasal sprays or decongestants. These will help free your nose from congestion and lubricate the passage to help you get rid of the discomfort.

Immunotherapy

Sinus is mainly caused due to allergy. In such a case, immunotherapy can prove to be a good option. With this procedure, your body is gradually exposed to a small amount of allergen; the dosage of which is increased with time. As the dosage increases, your immune system will develop a tolerance level. Another therapy is sublingual immunotherapy, wherein drops of diluted allergens are held under the tongue.

Surgery

When nothing else works, and your condition is getting severe, the last retort is surgery. There could be a possibility that your sinus is because of an abnormal structure of, or a tear in, your nasal septum. In such cases, the sinus passages swell, preventing the fluid from draining properly, thus developing sinus. These cases call for a surgery. There are many different kinds of surgeries the doctor may perform.

  • Septoplasty – This surgery helps in repairing a deviated or torn septum
  • Functional endoscopic sinus surgery – This surgery widens the opening of the sinuses
  • Balloon sinuplasty – This surgery is minimally invasive, wherein a small balloon is inserted into the sinus cavity, which is then inflated to open the sinus passages. Later, it is removed.

Which option is the best for you? If this is what you are wondering, we are here to help. Maitri Hospital is the best place you can be to have your sinus checked. Here, your condition will be thoroughly checked before suggesting you the most appropriate treatment. Whether your condition is mild that requires medication, or you need a surgery, our ENT surgeon in Kota is the best solution!

As soon as one gets pregnant, the parents are all excited about their to-be child, in terms of their health and behaviours, especially mothers who are going to deliver their first child. A feeling of anxiety, accompanied by fear, nervousness, excitement, and doubts is all very common among such first-time parents. And, to help ease their anxiety, they would always look for a paediatrician who can take care of their child’s health – keep it under control and maintained at all times, and be there to treat their child in cases of health issues or emergencies.

Every paediatrician is different, and each gives a different advice and treatment. So, how would you know which paediatrician is right for your child? Here are some tips to help.

Find the one nearest to you

It is always advisable to find a paediatrician that is located near your home. This is because it becomes convenient for you to take your child to the doctor, if you need to do so multiple times frequently, or in case of an emergency. You can put in your location on the internet and get a list of paediatricians available in your area. If you live in Kota, Maitri Hospital should be your choice, because here you can get a qualified and expert paediatric doctor in Kota to take care of your child. All the doctors here are qualified to do their jobs of taking care of children of all ages. And, some are even qualified to perform paediatric surgeries.

Look for a certified and experienced one

Now you have a list of paediatricians located in your area. But, it isn’t necessary that all of them are certified and qualified to take care of your child. You need to find one who is qualified and has a valid certification from an authorized institute. A qualification means your child will be in the right hands, which means complete safety for you.

Clearing your doubts

Okay now you have shortlisted those paediatricians who are qualified and eligible for practice. But again, as mentioned above, every paediatrician is different. So, from these qualified ones, you need to find the one that fits your requirements. And for this, you may ask the paediatricians all the questions you have in mind so that your doubts are cleared. If the paediatrician answers your questions properly, you can analyze that he is friendly and dedicated towards his patients. If he avoids your questions, or doesn’t seem to answer them properly, understand that he is inconsiderate, and won’t be the right one for you. After all, a paediatrician should be one who is friendly and can treat your child like his own. He must be polite and pleasant; one who can make your child comfortable, and not nervous or frightened within the clinic. Also, the ambience of the clinic should be friendly and positive that can make the child willingly coming back again.

Go by your instincts

Last but not the least, the choice is yours. Like for example, there are certain people who like a doctor that is “just the facts”, while there are others who would like a more interactive and engaged approach with more time for discussion. So, finally, the decision is for you to make. Choose one that seems right for you; for your instinct. If your instinct says one is right, go with it, and plan on choosing him for your child.

Different parts of the human body perform differently; and many parts of the body group on together to form a system. In this way, we have a number of systems within our body performing their own functions. While we cannot say that one system is more important than the other, but yes, the urinary system forms an integral part by performing the function of excreting the wastes from our body. Consisting of the kidneys, urethra, ureters, and bladders, they mainly function to pull out the wastes from our blood and form urine to be expelled out from the body.

Who are urologists? What do they do?

There are specialist doctors called urologists who are assigned to take care, handle, manage, and treat any problem of the urinary system of both males and females. While in the females, the field of urology is limited to only the urinary system, in males, it extends to the reproductive system as well. However, urologists do have a basic knowledge about the reproductive system of the females, and other systems within the body too, because after all, every system within the body is inter-related with one another. But, despite this knowledge, they will only treat the ailments related to the urinary system. Nonetheless, they keep in mind all the other systems too so that the medicines they give don’t affect the any system in a negative way.

What problems can urologists treat?

The most common urinary problems include urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence, kidney stones, and stress incontinence. While all these aren’t deadly diseases, they do require immediate medical attention. These ailments are generally treated by medications and therapies. However, there are other issues like tumours and prostate that require surgery. Urologists offer both kinds of urological services – surgical and non-surgical. Every kind of urologist is apt to prescribe medications and therapies. But, only specialized urologist surgeons are those who can perform surgeries. The most advanced surgeries include those that involve the use of surgical instruments, ultrasound technologies, laser technologies, and fiber-optic endoscopic hardware.

How does one become a urologist?

Urologists are certified to get their qualification to perform urological treatments and surgeries after a very long course of education and efforts. First, they need to undergo a graduate medical degree, after which they need to clear a post-graduate training course. Once these medical school requirements are cleared, they are required to take up a residency in a hospital specializing in urology, which take up five years of time. After this, the urologist will have to pass a board exam in their specialty. Once all of this is done, they can then apply for work at various hospitals and then open up their own practices. One can either take up general urology, or specific sub-specialties like urologic surgery, urologic oncology, endourology, urogynaecology, paediatric urology, transplant urology, and much more. If urologists wish to take up further studies, they can supplement their fellowships with a Master’s degree or a Ph.D. to prepare them for academic or focused clinical employment. After so much of pain and effort, one finally becomes a urologist. One such specialist is Maitri Hospital’s urologist in Kota, who is a specialized MCh in Urology, and is expertised to treat prostate, tumours, and erectile dysfunction.

What is acute sinusitis?

If you have a stuffed nose and pressure near the eyes, on your cheekbones, and on your forehead, you may be a victim of acute sinusitis. Acute sinusitis is one of the most common diseases people suffer from, all across the globe. It is nothing but an infection caused by viruses like those of a common cold. The infection is caused due to the inflammation of the membranes lining the nose and surrounding sinuses, which hampers the ability to train mucous from the nose and sinuses.

What are the symptoms of acute sinusitis?

Other than nasal congestion and pressure near the eyes, cheekbones, and forehead, as mentioned above, there are many other symptoms associated with acute sinusitis. These include thick yellow or green mucous, sore throat, excess coughing, headache, earache, toothache, bad breath, fever, fatigue, and reduced sense of smell and taste.

How is acute sinusitis diagnosed?

Doctors generally take up a physical exam to diagnose your symptoms for acute sinusitis. He will gently press over your sinuses with the fingers to identify an infection. Also, the nose will be checked for any inflammation, polyps, or abnormalities. Other advanced tests may include nasal endoscopy, CT scans, and MRI scans.

How is acute sinusitis treated?

What should you do if you have caught the acute sinusitis ailment? Yes, probably go the doctor. He could give you something like a nasal steroid spray, amoxicillin, or a placebo. Also, the symptoms can be treated with over-the-counter medicines. For example, congestion in the nose can be treated with decongestants, nasal drainage can be treated with nasal saline, and a sore throat can be treated with an ibuprofen. In addition, you must get enough rest, and lots of fluid intake to keep your body hydrated. However, if you have high fever, severe pain in the face, or discoloured/bad-smelling nasal drainage, the doctor may suggest you some antibiotics too. Worst case, if the condition is not able to be treated through medications, you may require a surgery. This is where you will need a professional ENT surgeon in Kota, one like that at Maitri Hospital, to conduct the required surgery, which may involve removing unwanted tissue, correcting the deviated septum, or reducing the enlarged turbinates.

Never take unprescribed antibiotics for acute sinusitis!

Because it is a result of a virus, acute sinusitis cannot generally be treated by antibiotics. However, even then, 70% of people are put on antibiotic prescriptions when they approach a doctor for the problem. If the doctor suggests the antibiotics when you have any of the above symptoms of high fever, facial pain, or unusual nasal drainage, it could be counted as valid, but otherwise, no antibiotic must be taken. Unnecessary antibiotic usage can lead to the formation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which may then lead our bodies to suffer from bacterial ailments like ulcers, pneumonia, fever, and infections. And, if these ailments get worse or severe, it may cause long-lasting damage to the body’s microbiome, thus leading to other diseases like asthma, allergies, gastrointestinal diseases, and autoimmune disease. In fact, looking at the current situation, it is predicted that over the next 1-2 decades, infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria will cause more than 10 million deaths worldwide!

Suffering from chronic back pain? We know how disturbing and unbearable that pain might be. It can affect not only actions like bending and lifting, but also every other facet of daily life, making even the simplest daily tasks uncomfortable and agonizing. If this is what your condition at present is, you may have probably undergone a variety of interventions to get some relief. These may include massages, hot compresses, exercises, therapies, and medications. However, if nothing seems to work, or if your pain subsides for a while and springs into action again, you possibly need a more invasive approach. A spinal fusion surgery could be the right call. But, how would you know?

What is spinal fusion surgery?

First and foremost, let us understand what a spinal fusion surgery is. It is a surgery wherein the orthopaedic surgeon in Kota will permanently join two or more vertebrae in the spine that are causing the pain. When such permanent linkage is done, a single solid bone is formed, making the movement between individual vertebrae impossible. Once the movement stops, the reason for back pain will be destroyed, thus subsiding back pain. Thus, you can say that spinal fusion surgery is essentially a welding process of the spine.

Are you a right candidate for the surgery?

If you are suffering from chronic arm pain or weakness, along with the chronic back pain that you have, you may perhaps need the surgery. Or, even if you are experiencing a sensation of heaviness in your arms, or pain in between your shoulder blades, a surgery may just be what you need. If these are the symptoms you experience, you must get in touch with a certified orthopaedic surgeon in Kota who can assess your condition and let you know if you certainly must go in for the surgery.

How does the doctor determine the need for a surgery?

Only when the doctor can pinpoint the source of your pain can a spine surgery be recommended. And, to do this, the doctor may use imaging tests like X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. Not every back pain requires a surgery. There are various spinal conditions that may have different reasons for pain, and thus, different treatments

Which conditions can be treated with spinal fusion surgery?

Spinal fusion surgery can help relieve symptoms of a variety of back problems like degenerative disk disease, fractured vertebrae, herniated disk, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, and tumour. However, don’t expect instant results and recovery. Fusing your natural bones together is no joke. Thus, it will take some time to bring relief and bring your body back to normal. Usually, varying from patient to patient, the general expected recovery period after a spinal fusion surgery is somewhere between three to six months. And, during this time period, you need to participate in physical therapy exercises and maintain a healthy diet, to ensure optimal results. Also, make sure to follow and adhere to all the other limitations imposed by Maitri Hospital’s orthopaedic surgeon in Kota. They are specialists and know what they are doing. While they help to relieve you of the pain you are experiencing, you need to help yourself too by following every instruction they give y ou.

Neurosurgery is a very exciting and intriguing topic of thought for a common man. Wondering how the brain and nerves in our body work together so beautifully and collaboratively, yet individually performing their own particular tasks, is in itself so intriguing, that we all would want to know how doctors tackle the problems of our neurological system. Understanding your anxiety to explore about the field of neurosurgery, we have come up with this blog that answers all the questions you may have in mind regarding neurosurgery and neurosurgeons.

What is neurosurgery? And who is a neurosurgeon?

Neurosurgery in Kota is the medical specialty field that is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, and surgical treatment of disorders of the nervous system, which comprises of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. And, the medical practitioner who practices such actions is a neurosurgeon.

How does one become a neurosurgeon?

To become a neurosurgeon, first one has to complete an accredited undergraduate program in science, after which he is required to attend at least four years of medical school. Next, there is one year residency program in general surgery that is to be completed, after which a 5-7 years of neurosurgery residency program is to be taken up. Thus, on an average, it takes somewhere around 13-15 years for an individual to become a neurosurgeon! In addition, many neurosurgeons also complete a fellowship after residency to specialize in a particular field of neurosurgery. Some of the common sub-specialties include cerebrovascular and skull base surgery, neuro-trauma and neurological critical care, neuro-oncology and interventional neuro-radiology, and pediatric neurosurgery. Now, can you imagine the amount of time, efforts, and capital that is put in to become such a professional!?

What disorders are neurolosurgeons specialized to treat?

As neurosurgeons have complete knowledge about the entire nervous system, they can treat all the disorders related to it. Some of the most common disorders include acoustic neuroma, astrocytoma, brain cyst, chordoma, brain tumours, nerve sheath tumours, neurilemmomas, neurofibroma, oligodendroglioma, pineal tumours, pituitary tumours, primary central nervous system lymphoma, sports injuries, syringomyelia, headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, and spine tumours and injuries.

How do neurosurgeons treat such disorders?

Neurosurgeons have access to a number of treatments, out of which they determine on the best treatment for a particular patient, depending upon the condition and the diagnosis that they do. There are a number of diagnostic tests that can be done to confirm a disorder. Some of the most common neurological diagnostic tests include carotid duplex, cerebral angiography, CT scan, discography, doppler ultrasound, EEG, EMG, intrathecal contrast-enhanced CT scan, lumbar puncture, MRI, myelogram, nerve conduction study, OPG, PET scan, selective nerve root block, and SSEP test. Once these tests determine the condition of the patient, the treatment is initiated. Just like the availability of a number of tests, neurosurgeons also have a number of treatment options in hand. Some of the most common procedures include ACDF, burr hole, chiari decompression, craniotomy, ETV, epilepsy surgery, laminectomy, spinal fusion, ventriculostomy, and shunts.

When should you need to visit a neurosurgeon?

If you experience migraines, tremors, seizures, chronic headaches, vision problems, back pain, neck pain, back injury, or head injury, you may need to visit a neurosurgeon. Maitri Hospital is the best place you can visit in such situations because the hospital is a centre of excellence for neurosurgery in Kota, where there is a team of experienced, skilled, and trained doctors, who have till date successfully treated innumerous patients suffering from any and all kinds of neurological conditions.

A General Physician in Kota, Neurosurgery in Kota is what every family must have in their list so that they have all their illnesses covered completely. A general physician will conduct routine tests of your body from time to time to check for any possibilities of health concerns. Also, even the slightest change in your body or behaviour may be easy to catch if you are I regular touch with a physician. This may save you from potential serious illnesses that may hit you in the future. This is why it is very important to have a general physician handy. But, with the multiple number of general physicians around, how do you know which one to choose? To help you, we have enlisted some of the basic qualities that you must look for in a physician before deciding that he is the one for your family.

Professionalism

Professionalism is an utmost important quality. A doctor must have abundant knowledge about his field and enough experience on treating patients. This is rule number 1 for a doctor’s professionalism. But, along with that, it is imperative that a doctor possesses other professional behaviours too like speaking politely, listening to patients attentively, being patient at all times, and also looking tidy himself.

Dedication

A doctor should be completely dedicated to his work. No matter how tired he may be, or how many problems he may have in this personal life, it must not affect his professional life at all. It is natural for a common man to feel frustrated after facing so many negative patients throughout the day. But that doesn’t mean that a doctor brings out his personal frustration on the patients. A doctor must be dedicated in a way that he keeps all h is personal problems away while he is at his clinic, and must serve his patients compassionately. Visiting a happy and lively doctor eliminates 50% of patients’ problems just like that!

Confidence

Patients should always be able to trust their doctor. This is why it is important that a doctor is always confident. A confident doctor seems to be trustworthy as patients feel that a confident doctor understands their problem and knows what he is doing to treat them. A doctor with complete knowledge about the patient’s illness, the treatment, and the medication/therapy dosage is one who can be confident. If any doubts in the mind of the doctor, it will affect his confidence, and thus instill a feeling of doubt within the patient too. This is not something that any doctor or patient would want.

Compassion

Patients always respond better to physicians who are compassionate and empathetic. The interaction between a patient and doctor must always be comfortable and friendly, which instills a feeling of trust within the patient for the doctor. If a doctor is rude or completely professional in the way he speaks, patients may not be as comfortable. Thus, compassion is a very important quality that a general physician must possess.

If these four qualities can be clearly seen within a doctor, you can rest assured that he is a good choice. Maitri Hospital’s general physician in Kota is one such choice you can make if you live in or around the city. We take all the five sensory organs for granted, but that is only up till you experience a problem with them. One such organ taken for granted is the vocal cord that gives us the gift of speech. While we speak and chatter all day long, we don’t realize how important our communication is. But, when our throat is sore, making it difficult to talk, or when we lose our voice on a temporary basis, we realize how important speech is for us. Realizing this importance, we are here, to cover in this blog, three most common vocal cord injuries that you must be aware of so that you can have them treated in the best way possible if they arise.

Laryngitis

Laryngitis is the irritation, inflammation, or swelling of the voice box, which causes severe hoarseness, or even complete loss of voice! The disease is caused by a virus, which is why the effect remains for a week or two, and is automatically treated by the immune system of the body. However, there are certain things you need to do while you are suffering from laryngitis to keep your throat comfortable, and help it recover faster. These include drinking lots of fluid and resting your voice. Nevertheless, if your condition is severe, and the symptoms don’t seem to improve over a few days, you need a specialist. This is because you could be suffering from chronic laryngitis, which may be caused due to heartburn, or excessive intake of tobacco and alcohol. The worst reason that may cause chronic laryngitis is a throat tumour, which will then require an ENT surgeon in Kota to remove it through surgery.

Vocal cord polyps

These are small growths in the throat caused by overuse of the vocal cord, or long term exposure to irritants, allergens, or tobacco. You will need to rest your voice, or work with a speech therapist to get voice therapy. However, if the condition is severe or has any abnormalities, you will need an ENT surgeon in Kota to perform phonomicrosurgery, a vocal cord surgery that uses tiny instruments to treat the tiny growths.

Vocal cord paralysis

As the name itself suggests, this is a condition where the nerve of the vocal cord is injured, which may cause moderate to severe hoarseness. If the condition is worse, it may also result in breathing and swallowing difficulty. The main reasons for this condition include viral infection, trauma, neck surgery, or a neurological disease. The condition can be treated through voice therapy or surgery, depending upon the symptoms.

While anyone of any age can develop the above vocal cord injuries, those who use their voices for a living are at greater risk. These include professors, singers, anchors, politicians, telemarketers, translators, guides, and radio jockeys. Also, those who smoke or drink alcohol excessively are at higher risk to develop such vocal cord problems. So, if you belong to any of the above categories, you need to take complete care of your vocal cord and throat, or you may land yourself into trouble. And, if you already have landed into such trouble, get in touch immediately with Maitri Hospital, where you can get treated by an expert ENT surgeon in Kota who uses state-of-the-art techniques with compassionate care to treat every patient considerably.
